About
Heron Power builds solid-state power electronics meant to replace the giant oil-filled transformers that still run most of the electric grid — its "Heron Link" product claims to be 100x smaller than a conventional transformer while cutting power losses in half. Two variants target the two places power demand is growing fastest: a data-center version paired with a "SuperBBU" backup unit for AI/hyperscale facilities, and a solar-and-storage version that integrates the transformer directly with an inverter.
The company was founded by Drew Baglino, who spent 18 years at Tesla leading its energy and powertrain engineering before leaving in April 2024 to start Heron Power in Scotts Valley, California. It raised a $140M Series B in February 2026 from Andreessen Horowitz and Breakthrough Energy, and has since picked Morgan Hill, California as its factory site — a $100M+ investment expected to create 600+ manufacturing jobs and produce up to 10,000 Heron Links a year, backed by $26.375M in state tax credits.
It has also struck partnerships with LG Energy Solution Vertech on battery-storage integration and with NVIDIA on 800-volt DC data center power systems.
